Today, October 20, 2020, is International Chefs Day! It is a day to celebrate the profession. And, for experienced chefs to pass along their culinary knowledge to the next generation of chefs. In honor of this, (and since Friday was World Food Day), I am highlighting some prominent vegan chefs around the world. 🌱

Vegan Chefs Around The World

These vegan chefs are revolutionizing the food industry. Their creativity and innovation is incredible! Plant based diets are continuing to become more mainstream. My hope is that others will be inspired to follow in these trailblazers’ footsteps. 💚

Hispanic chef, Eddie Garza, knows first-hand the power of a plant based diet. At 21 years old, Eddie weighed 310 pounds. By adopting a plant-centric diet, Eddie lost over 150 pounds and reversed his declining health.

Chef Eddie is also a cookbook author, motivational speaker, culinary coach, and a leader on issues related to the Latin community’s health.

Kirk Haworth was diagnosed with Lyme Disease in 2016. However, he discovered his symptoms were reduced by eating a plant based diet.

Chef Kirk has perfected his craft in Michelin-star restaurants around the world. Based in London, Chef Kirk co-founded a plant based restaurant and event space with his sister.

Celebrating plant based food and creativity, he hosts an online cooking school, workshops, and food and drink development events (among other things). His restaurant also focuses on “sustainability for people and for the planet.”

Chef, cookbook author, entrepreneur, and educator, Chef Matthew specializes in plant based cuisine. He has also founded over 40 restaurants around the world, including in Buenos Aires, Dubai, Sydney, and New York City.

“The future of food is plant based.”

Chef David Lee is a classically trained chef and restaurateur. Based in Ontario, Canada, he was born in London and is of Hakka, Chinese, and French descent. Chef David himself has followed a plant based diet for 4 years and enjoys creating menus that are entirely vegan.

With over 20 years cooking and teaching experience, Chef Mark is an award-winning chef and founder of the Vegan Fusion Culinary Academy. His goal is to “bring mindfulness, passion, and compassion to the culinary world by encouraging more people to discover the pleasures and benefits of plant based cooking.”

The author of 8 books, Chef Mark has also led vegan cooking and chef training workshops around the world. In 2017, he was inducted into the Vegetarian Hall of Fame.

Robin worked as a restaurant chef for many years before quitting the industry and becoming vegan for ethical reasons. After that, she began writing cookbooks and teaching others about vegan cooking.
The author of more than 20 cookbooks, Chef Robin places an emphasis on “vibrant flavors of global cuisines and fresh ingredients.”

Israeli-born Chef Tal has worked at some of the top vegan restaurants in the United States. Prominent among celebrities, he is also known for catering the first vegan dinner at the U.S. Senate.

Additionally, Chef Tal is founder and chef of Crossroads Kitchen in Los Angeles, a bestselling author, board member at Impossible Foods, and co-creator of the vegan brand, Kite Hill.

Brothers from New England, Derek and Chad are chefs, cookbook authors, and founders of the Wicked Healthy brand. They have teamed up with industry leaders, such as Whole Foods Market and the U.K. retail store, Tesco, in order to bring delicious vegan foods to markets.

“Our mission is to inspire you to cook and eat more plants, and to give back to organizations who are doing the same, so we can see measurable differences in the health and lives of humans and animals globally.”

Chef Miyoko (pronounced me-yo-co) founded the vegan cheese company, Miyoko’s Creamery. Miyoko developed unique plant based cheeses and cuisines, eventually turning it into a successful business and publishing a number of cookbooks.
