Vegan and Sustainable Gifts — A Case For Plant Based
It’s that time of year again: Happy Black Friday! I’ve got some great ideas for some amazing vegan and sustainable gifts for the holidays (or anytime!) 🛍
I love supporting small businesses and local shops. Not only is it a more sustainable way to buy, but you’re also supporting someone’s family vs a high-powered CEO. However, I do realize shopping small and local is not always possible, so I do have gift options from larger companies as well.
And, since we’ll be welcoming a little one of our own next year, I’ve included some gift ideas for the youngest little vegans on your shopping list. ❤️
Etsy
A great way to shop from thousands of small businesses, Etsy has something for everyone!
I love these vegan tanks from Roxy Moon Shop.
Or, this adorable “vegan” ring by Jewelry RB.
Plus, you can simply go to Etsy and type in vegan gifts. There are so many awesome things to choose from!
A&O Home Co.
This small business is run by the sweetest Christian mama. She hand makes the most amazing candles using soy, essential oils, and all natural ingredients. Plus, you’ll find lots of other home decor items in her online shop.
Green Utopia KC
A zero-waste shop based here in Kansas City, products are made from recycled, upcycled, biodegradable ingredients. The infant toy is made from natural plant materials, and the dog toy is made from a recycled fire hose. These gifts were hand delivered to my door within a couple of days of ordering.
Vegan Supply Co.
Made from vegan friendly materials and eco-friendly ink, this is one of the coolest clothing and accessories shops! Additionally, shipping products are 100% recyclable or fully biodegradable.
Vegan and Sustainable clothing and accessories
Check out websites such as Vegan Outfitters for clothing and accessories or Alchemy Goods for upcycled wallets and accessories.
Subscriptions
Give the gift of a subscription to Thrive Market. Not only does Thrive Market carry tons of vegan options, but they also endorse ethical and sustainable sourcing, recyclable and compostable packaging, and zero-waste warehouses.
Or, give a gift card to Misfit Market. This creative business model purchases “rejected” or unattractive organic food products that would otherwise be thrown away. Then, items are sold at a discounted rate. This cuts down on food waste while distributing food in a more sustainable way. Note: not all food sold through Misfit Market is vegan-friendly.
Additionally, dinner delivery kits, such as Purple Carrot, make excellent gifts as well.
Or, how about a subscription to VegNews magazine? Get the latest vegan news, health and beauty tips, plant based recipes, and so much more. Plus, they offer subscriptions for digital prints as well.
Another option is to gift a subscription to a vegan and cruelty-free beauty company, such as Kinder Beauty Box. Each monthly box is curated with vegan cosmetics, skincare, hair care products, accessories, and more.
Amazon
Search for “ vegan gifts “ on Amazon for gift baskets and other vegan-friendly gift ideas.
Side note: this vegan symbol was printed by my husband on his 3D printer; so get creative with your gift giving! 😍
Kids
For the littlest vegans in your life, shop for vegan coloring books, clothing, or reading books.
Kitchen and Cooking
For sustainable and eco-friendly gifts:
- reusable ziploc bags, produce and bulk item bags, and shopping bags
- reusable straws, water bottles, and coffee cups
- bamboo or cotton reusable paper towels
And, food processors, blenders, air fryers, and tofu presses make great gifts for vegans as well.
Some of my favorite plant based cookbooks are:
- “But I Could Never Go Vegan” by Kristy Turner
- “Plant Based on a Budget” by Toni Okamoto
- “The China Study Cookbook” by LeAnne Campbell
- “The Plant Based Diet for Beginners” by Gabriel Miller
- “The Rawsome Vegan Cookbook” by Emily von Euw
- “The Whole Foods Cookbook” by John Mackey, Alona Pulde, and Matthew Lederman
Books
My favorite books that promote a healthy plant based diet and vegan lifestyle include:
Beauty
Cruelty free and vegan makeup, skin care, or personal care products and gift sets are amazing gifts. My personal favorite vegan companies include:
For sustainability, try reusable makeup pads, bamboo toothbrushes, shampoo bars, or bamboo cotton swabs.
Note: While I am an affiliate of some of these brands, I fully stand by all products I endorse. I only promote products that I myself personally use on a regular basis-and love. By clicking on affiliate links, I may earn a small commission, at no additional cost to you. You can read more about affiliate links here.
Local
Gift cards to local vegan restaurants make wonderful gifts! If you’re in the Kansas City area, Kind Food, The Fix, The Tree Hugger Truck, Lulu’s Thai Noodle Shop, and Mud Pie bakery are some of our favorites.
Support local and small businesses as much as possible! 💚
Giving back
And, because the holidays are also a time to give back, donations in someone’s name are a wonderful tribute.
- local animal rescues
- animal sanctuaries
- wildlife rehabilitation centers
- World Wildlife Fund
- and so many more!
